Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some of our most frequently asked questions to help guide your experience. If your question isn’t listed, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re always here to assist with care and attention.

Q: How long does teeth whitening last?

A: Teeth whitening is not permanent, and results can vary from person to person based on lifestyle and oral hygiene.

On average, whitening results last:

  • 6 to 8 months for non-smokers

  • 4 to 6 months for smokers

  •

Good oral hygiene, avoiding staining foods and drinks (like coffee, tea, and red wine), and regular dental care can help extend the results.

Q: Will my teeth be sensitive after the treatment?

A: Sensitivity is possible but rare, and we take every precaution to minimize the risk. Each client is closely monitored throughout the treatment to ensure comfort and safety.

To help prevent sensitivity:

  • You may use a sensitive toothpaste starting two weeks before your appointment.

  • Avoid cold drinks immediately after the treatment.

  • You can apply a vitamin E swab to your gums and teeth after the session for added comfort.

Q: I have a root canal on my front tooth — will this change colour?

A: Not in the same way as your other teeth. A tooth that has had a root canal is no longer living and often takes on a darker or greyish tone. While some surface stains may be removed, the internal discoloration will likely remain, and the tooth may still appear a different shade compared to the surrounding teeth.

Q: Will this treatment harm my teeth?

Q: How often can I do the treatment?

A: If the desired results aren’t achieved after one session, clients can safely do a second session 1 to 3 weeks later.

After that, it’s recommended to wait 4 to 6 months before doing another full whitening treatment. This helps maintain results while protecting tooth enamel.

Q: How many sessions will I need?

A: Most clients achieve their desired results with one full session. However, if there is heavy staining or particularly stubborn discoloration, a second session may be recommended.

Results are immediate after each session.

Q: How many shades will my teeth lighten?

A: Results vary from person to person, but on average, clients can expect their teeth to lighten by 4 to 12 shades.

The exact outcome depends on factors like the level of staining.

Q: I have fillings, crowns, or veneers on my front teeth — will these whiten?

The whitening process itself will not change the colour of the tooth, as it’s a porcelain/composite material. However, overtime stains do build up on these materials and can be lightened with the whitening treatment. We warn clients it might be different than the adjacent teeth but we always monitor throughout and show them along the way.

Q: Does insurance cover this treatment?

A: Teeth whitening is typically considered a cosmetic procedure, so most insurance companies do not provide coverage.

However, clients are welcome to submit the receipt we provide to their insurance provider in case partial reimbursement is available under their plan.

The whitening gel we use is Health Canada approved and safe for your enamel.

When performed by a trained professional, it should not cause any damage. However, excessive or overly frequent whitening treatments can potentially weaken or soften enamel over time, which is why we follow strict safety guidelines and recommend proper spacing between sessions.
